5 Tips for a Lasting Long Distance Relationship

Most of the time, a lasting long distance relationship does not really make it. Or so that is what many people believe. Family and friends may discourage it and they will tell you to not take it seriously because you will end up heartbroken.

Nobody will tell you that it is easy because the distance itself is a major factor that makes a lot of things hard to do. Simple things can become complicated and you may feel lonely a lot of times.

But despite that all, as long as you hold on, the extra mile makes the simplest of holding hands and kisses very much special. Eating together and facing your significant other in person and not through a flat screen, actually talking without the phone in your ear, feeling each other’s slightest touch, walking together, smelling each other’s hair – these simple things are more precious in a long distance relationship.

Long distance relationships are not easy. Turning them into a lasting relationship can be a huge challenge for both parties because of the temptations and bumps along the road. To keep the fire burning, here are some helpful tips that you can do to make your long distance relationship work and turn it into a lasting relationship.

Get a Good App for Messaging

In this age of technology when we are connected to the Internet 24×7, get a good messaging application that can express your feelings more such as those that have emoticons and emojis. This can save you a lot of long distance calls because it’s free and easy to use.

Regular Communication

For a relationship to grow, both parties must exert the effort. Set a common time where you talk with each other and make it a habit. You can also think of creative ways to talk to each other like setting online dates or finding a creative way to make your communication more fun.

Do things together like watching the same movie at the same time or playing a common game. It may sound cheesy but you can walk together outside while on video call.

Know about each other’s schedules

It is helpful if you know when the other is busy or when he or she is free so that you can talk during your common free time. When there are sudden changes to the schedule, make sure that the other is informed. This is very useful when you are in different time zones.

Be Honest

Do not break your trust with each other. Talk about how you are feeling. Try not to hide anything from your partner because keeping too many skeletons in the closet is not really helpful if you are trying to build a lasting relationship.

If you are going to go out with your friends or do something that may not make your partner happy, it is either you do not go or you tell your partner beforehand where you are going.

Visit each other

In every long distance relationship, visiting each other and seeing each other even for a short time is the highlight of the relationship. Take time to book that flight or drive that extra miles to see your significant other.

Just because you are in a long distance relationship does not mean that you are alone and lonely. There are plenty of things that you can do to occupy your mind and then look forward to talking about it with your partner.
